The Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain saga appears to be reaching its climax as the latest reports from the Daily Mail suggest the Southampton midfielder is set to complete his switch to Arsenal.
The Gunners will hold talks with the Saints today to finalise a deal which will see the League One side rake in up to £10million for the sale of the 17-year-old.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, son of former England international Mark Chamberlain, has attracted interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United and it appears the north London side have pipped their Premier League rivals to the signing of the teenager.
Mark Chamberlain, who has worked with both Alex and Theo Walcott at Southampton, believes his son has more potential than Walcott and says Alex will go on to achieve great things.
Arsene Wenger has suggested that an agreement has been made between the player and Arsenal and now the two clubs must agree a fee before the signing can be confirmed.
Arshavin to Chelsea.
The News of the World has revealed that out-of-form Arsenal winger Andrei Arshavin could be set to leave the club this summer and join city rivals Chelsea.
The Russian international has not started a league game since the end of December and his latest display consisted of a lazy, effortless performance as his manager gave him a run-out for the last 15 minutes against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
Rumours have been spreading that the 29-year-old could be on his way out of the Emirates in the near future with his former club Zenit St. Petersburg revealing they would welcome him back with open arms. But it looks like his partner in the Russia’s 2018 World Cup bid, Roman Abramovich, could be set to offer him a fresh start in the south-west of London this summer.
Arshavin has 18 months left to run on his contract and it is expected that an offer of around £10million would be required to persuade the Arsenal hierarchy to sell him.
Wenger eyes McGregor.
Arsene Wenger has been lacking in quality goalkeepers for the last few years and it is understood that the Arsenal manager has turned his attention to Rangers keeper Allan McGregor.
The Guardian has revealed that the Frenchman sent scouts up to Glasgow at the weekend to keep an eye on Rangers’ number one as the Scottish champions lost to Hearts.
The 28-year-old has been outstanding between the sticks for the Gers this season and is believed to have caught the attention of Manchester United, Aston Villa and Sevilla, and it looks like Arsenal might just add their name to the list of potential destinations for the Scotland international.
Debt-stricken Rangers are ready to cash in on McGregor this season but the Glasgow side will not let their first-choice goalkeeper go for cheap but an offer of around £5million is expected to be enough to persuade them to part company with the player.
