Carew in talks over Stoke move

Sky Sports News have reported that Stoke City are in talks with Aston Villa’s Norwegian striker John Carew over a possible loan move to The Britannia.

The Norway international has been widely tipped to leave Villa Park during the current transfer window after falling out of favour with Villa boss Gerard Houllier, and the arrival of club-record signing Darren Bent from Sunderland for a fee of £18 m has seen him fall further down the pecking order.

West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo had previously confirmed his interest in signing the former Valencia?and Lyon? forward, but it now appears the Baggies could be beaten to his signature by Tony Pulis’ Potters who are keen to strengthen their own forward line.

Carew? has reportedly held discussions with Stoke over a loan move until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the current campaign, and appears very unlikely to be offered an extension by Houllier.

A move for Carew is likely to heighten increase speculation that Sanli Tuncay or Ricardo Fuller could be on their way out of The Britannia this month, with Sunderland? and Birmingham both reportedly keen.
