Chelsea are eyeing up Manchester City centre-back Joleon Lescott, if a deal for David Luiz fails to materialise, according to the Mail Online.

The Blues are in the third round of negotiations for Luiz after twice being re-buffed following the failure to agree a price, therefore they may need a back up and the City man – out of favour at Eastland’s – fits the profile.

Whilst Benfica are holding out for close to £38m for Luiz, Chelsea’s second bid was thought to be around £21m plus Paulo Ferreira, seemingly the two clubs have a different valuation for the 23-year-old.

Carlo Ancelotti would want to offer around £8m for the ex-Everton man, but Man City would want to re-coup more of the £22m they club spent on him, barely 18 months ago.

Didier Drogba admits the Blues’ young guns need time to develop as they adapt to the pace of the Premiership, according to the Press Association.

The striker continued to say, Chelsea are struggling to fill the void created by experienced players who left the club in the summer, and the Ivorian points towards this as a key factor to their indifferent form this term.
