Fulham jump the queue for Sidwell

The Daily Mirror are today reporting that Fulham are close to securing a deal for Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell from under the noses of West Ham and Wolves.

The 28 year old midfielder was considered to have been close to agreeing either a loan deal with the Molineux club or a permanent transfer to West Ham. Fulham were reported to have been in negotiations for the midfielder in the summer, but the transfer was aborted upon Roy Hodgson’s leaving for Liverpool.

Now, however, Hughes has resurrected the deal at a fraction of the cost with the former Reading mans contract up in the summer. Aston Villa are reported to be looking to reduce their wage bill and have deemed Sidwell surplus to requirements at Villa Park.

Sidwell is believed to welcome the move to Fulham due to his family being based in south west London.
