Liverpool news – Ragnick keen on joining, Agger makes exit threat, Gerrard returns

Agger makes exit threat.

Daniel Agger has warned manager Roy Hodgson that failure to give him first team football will result in the Dane walk away from the club, The Guardian reports. Agger returned to the team on New Year’s Day following a three month absence with a calf injury, but is worried that he will continue to be overlooked by Hodgson just as he was during the season’s formative weeks.

“I still have three years left on my contract but it’s not me who decides if I’m playing,” Agger said. “If I’m not playing and I’m not injured I have no reason to be here.” Nevertheless the stylish centre-back does not believe that Liverpool are actively seeking to get rid of him, even though Wolfsburg and Juventus are two mentioned suitors.

Ragnick interested in Liverpool.

Ralf Ragnick is a name unfamiliar to many followers of the Premier League. However he has built up a credible reputation in Germany having firmly established Hoffenheim’s position in the Bundesliga before quitting his post after key player Luiz Gustavo was sold to Bayern Munich against his wishes.

Ragnick’s agent Oliver Mintzlaff told the Daily Telegraph that the German tactician would welcome a move to the Premier League, sparking rumours that he could be targeted by Liverpool who are known to be in the market for a new manager. “Ralf is a great fan of English football and has followed it a great deal,” he said. “The English Premier League is something that interests him very much, but there have not been any discussions with Liverpool.”

Gerrard returns.

Following a match-changing turn as substitute against Bolton on New Year’s Day, captain Steven Gerrard is likely to be reinstated into the Liverpool team for the trip to Blackburn tonight. The Daily Telegraph reports that he could to be joined in the starting-XI by Joe Cole, following his winning goal against Bolton. Cole is likely to contest Maxi Rodriguez his position on the left of midfield, whilst Gerrard will replace Meireles in the starting line-up.

Long-term absentees Jamie Carragher and Jay Spearing are still missing from the Liverpool match day squad and will take no part in their trip to Ewood Park.
