Man Utd news – Ferdinand criticises Sky duo, Team news v Blackpool, Giggs praises Rafael

Ferdinand criticises Sky duo.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has condemned the senior presenters Andy Gray and Richard Keys for their views regarding women officials and executives.

Ferdinand praised the assistant referee Sian Massey on Twitter and added: “Discrimination should not happen in our game at all … prehistoric views if u think otherwise.”

The Sky Sports pair were suspended for Monday night’s coverage of Bolton v Chelsea and will face disciplinary action.

Giggs praises Rafael.

Manchester United favourite Ryan Giggs has praised the recent performances of young full-back Rafael.

“Rafael has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few months,” said the veteran Welshman. “I have seen a massive improvement, not only in the way he plays but within him as a person.”

Despite the Brazilians recent disciplinary troubles, Giggs remains confident that Rafael will continue to grow and mature as a season progresses.

“I come up against him in a lot of training sessions because we play in opposite positions and I have seen the maturity develop over the last three or four months. If he keeps developing he is going to be a brilliant player.”

Team news v Blackpool.

Manchester United are monitoring the fitness of defensive duo Rio Ferdinand (groin) and Michael Carrick (ankle), but Rafael is set to return after serving his one-game ban.

Former Reds defender Craig Cathcart is likely to feature for the home side, while Wayne Rooney is poised to make his 300th appearance for United.
