Newcastle move for Larsson

According to reports on Sky Sports, Newcastle United have made a move for Swedish midfielder Sebastian Larsson from Birmingham City. The 25-year-old, who has made 169 appearances for the Midlands club, is believed to be interesting a number of sides including Liverpool, Everton, West Ham, Blackburn, Bolton, Sunderland and a number of Spanish clubs.

Larsson’s contract expires in the summer and Birmingham are reluctant to let the former Arsenal midfielder leave on a free in the summer and are willing to let him go this month and recoup a fee. With such interest in the player, it’s believed that Newcastle won’t be the only side in for him over the course of the month.

The Daily Mirror report that Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has targeted Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam as Larsson’s replacement, with a bid of around £2m being reported for the Scottish playmaker.
