Samba reveals Aston Villa interest

It has been reported by Sky Sports that Blackburn Rovers centre-back Christopher Samba has claimed that Aston Villa have contacted his club with regard to a possible transfer.

Samba is reportedly unsettled at Ewood Park after he expressed his disappointment at the decision of the club’s new owners Venky’s to sack Sam Allardyce as manager last month.

The France-born Republic of Congo international told of his desire to leave the club earlier this month, although news Rovers boss Steve Kean remains hopeful that he can persuade his captain to stay at the club.

Premier League rivals Villa? have been linked with a bid, whilst French giants Lyon are also said to be monitoring the situation.

The 26-year-old has not received any approach from Lyon, but says Villa have been in touch with Blackburn during the transfer window.

“I heard about interest from Lyon, but there is no contact,” Samba said in an interview with France Football. “However, there is contact between Blackburn and Aston Villa.”

Villa boss Gerard Houllier? is trying to inject some new life into his squad this month and has already signed Kyle Walker? and Jean Makoun in January.

Villa have also signed Sunderland? striker Darren Bent in an effort to help him drag Villa back up the league table.
