Sunderland close in on midfield duo

Chronicle Live are reporting that Sunderland are closing in on transfer targets Stephane Sessegnon and Sulley Muntari, with it looking likely that the midfielders will join before the end of January.

Sunderland are also believed to be looking for a striker to replace Darren Bent, with the Black Cats’ only fit frontman being Asamoah Gyan.

Gyan has already spoken out, urging his fellow Ghanaian Muntari to come and join himself and John Mensah at the Stadium of Light. Muntari is desperate to leave Inter, and has handed in a transfer request.

Sessengon, currently playing for Paris Saint Germain, is also currently being monitored by Aston Villa and Newcastle, who both believe the £7m-rated Benin international will be available at a knock down price after a bust-up with the PSG manager. The 26-year-old right-winger is under contract until 2013, but it looks like he will be leaving the club after the aforementioned bust-up.
