Sunderland keen on Fuller

The Sunderland Echo have reported that the sale of Darren Bent to Aston Villa looks set to spark a transfer merry-go-round, with Sunderland reportedly close to securing the transfer of Ricardo Fuller from Stoke City.

Reports from The Britannia today, say the deal could be imminent for a fee in the region of £3m. Fuller, who has been playing up front for the Potters this season alongside former-Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones, has not been in great form for The Potters this season, only managing to notch up three strikes in his 19 league appearances this season.

Stoke are willing to let the Jamaican international leave the club because of the arrival of John Carew on loan from Aston Villa.

The money from the Bent transfer, and Sunderland’s willingness to spend some of it, is expected to have a domino effect on transfers around the league.

Bruce is thought to be very eager to tie up the deal, with the Black Cats now only having one fit striker in Asamoah Gyan, with Danny Welbeck and Fraizer Campbell both missing with knee injuries.
