Club Focus – Manchester Untied – Ferguson may play fringe players in Crawley FA Cup tie

While the players of Crawley Town will be gearing up for the tie of their lives, Manchester United fans will be anticipating

another chance to view some of the fringe players in the squad. The likes of Bebe, Gabriel Obertan and Fabio da Silva will most likely all be given a chance for first team football. However, Sir Alex Ferguson has been burned by playing weakened teams in cup competitions in recent years, most notably at the hands of Leeds United last year.

The likes of Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Nani will probably be rested against the Blue Square Primer minnows, but Ferguson has taken to selecting a strong defence to prevent any upsets. Nemanja Vidic has been in superlative form this season, but Ferguson might not risk resting the Serbian given Ferdinand is out and Kuszczak will most likely start in goal. Starting without a single first choice player in defence would be a dangerous policy even against non-league opposition.
