Man City news – City rise in rich list, Ade deal done, Zabaleta ready for derby

City rise in rich list.

Manchester City have jumped nine places to eleventh position in the latest edition of the European football rich list.

Despite still trailing fellow league rivals Manchester United (3rd), Arsenal (5th) and Chelsea (6th),the Citizens posted a revenue increase of 44 percent to £125million for the year ending June 2010. Liverpool also remain above City but drop to eighth place after their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona once again boast the biggest financial figures as they sit first and second, respectively, although they are both aided by the uneven distribution of broadcasting rights from domestic competitions.

Zabaleta ready for derby.

Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta is eager to pile more misery on rivals Manchester United in this weekends derby clash.

City trail their table-topping neighbours by five points but Zabaleta believes a victory at Old Trafford could blow the title race wide open.

“I believe 100 per cent we can win because we show our character when we are in games that we really need to win.” said Zabaleta.

“We know it will be very difficult. United are very strong and are unbeaten at home, so it would be great to break that record. Everyone is waiting for Saturday because we know it’s one of the best games to play in and enjoy.”

Ade deal done.

Manchester City have reportedly agreed a deal with Real Madrid that could see Emmanuel Adebayor join for a fee of just £15m, reports the Daily Star.

City signed Adebayor for £25m from Arsenal in 2009 but the Togolese striker has since fallen out of favour with Mancini and was subsequently sent out on loan during the January transfer window.

The report indicates that City have received an initial £1.7m fee for the loan deal and will obtain a similar figure if Adebayor helps Madrid win the Champions League. Real would then have the option to make the deal permanent for £12m in the summer.

Adebayor has struck twice already in La Liga and has praised Jose Mourinho for his recent resurgence. “It is very easy to work with Mourinho. He is an excellent person and he enhances my game.”
