Man City news – El Ghanassy to join, Silva eyes Champions League, Tevez like Henry

Silva eyes Champions League.

Influential playmaker David Silva has vowed to ensure Manchester City qualify for the Champions League if the club fall short of their title aspirations.

Silva is currently enjoying his debut season in the Premier League after joining from Spanish side Valencia. With City missing out on fourth spot to Spurs last year, Silva revealed is it crucial that they are playing Champions League football next season.

“A good first season for me would be to qualify for the Champions League or to win a trophy,” he said. “We will fight for the league title all the way and try to win the other competitions but the target is to finish in the top four.”

Tevez like Henry.

Manchester City veteran Patrick Vieira has revealed he believes club captain Carlos Tevez leads from the front just like former team-mate Theirry Henry.

Tevez shares the same goal-scoring prowess as Henry, having found the target 49 times in 70 appearances for City and Vieira believes he can obtain the same iconic status as Henry achieved during his time with Arsenal.

“When you want to win trophies you need a striker who can score 20 to 25 goals a season or even more.” Vieira told the Daily Star.

“It’s fantastic for City because we have that type of player in Carlos. He is someone who can win you games.”

El Ghanassy to join.

Manchester City’s January transfer target Yassine El Ghanassy has claimed that a deal could be close that sees him join the club at the end of the season.

Roberto Mancini reportedly failed with a move for the Belgium youngster on deadline day, who was touted as a replacement for the injured Adam Johnson. However the deal looks set to be resurrected in the summer according to the player.

“I’m not disappointed it didn’t get pushed through,” El Ghanassy told Het Nieuwsblad.

“I think there is now an agreement with Manchester City for me to move in the summer.

“We will have to see if that works out. I am focused on Gent for now, but I think there is a possibility to move on.”
