Redknapp wants strikers to lead Champions League charge

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp wants his strikers to fire the club back into the Champions League next season by securing the coveted fourth place in the Premier League.

Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has scored five league goals this season, yet is not a regular starter for Redknapp. Meanwhile Peter Crouch has just two league goals, and Jermain Defoe has yet to score this season in 12 appearances. This has left the midfield to get the goals that have taken the club to fourth place in the league this year, with Rafael van der Vaart topscoring with 10, and Gareth Bale on seven.

Redknapp told The Mirror: “We need Defoe to perform his usual trick, go on one of those little spells and get us eight or nine goals between now and the end of the season.

“And we need Crouch and ‘Pav’ to weigh in with a few goals in the Premier League as well. That could make all the difference.”

Spurs currently occupy the last Champions League place, two points clear of Chelsea, yet if they beat Blackpool away tonight, they would go one point ahead of Manchester City, into third place.
