Monday was a transfer rumour filled day for Tottenham, with stories regarding Charlie Adam, Rafael van der Vaart, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Alvaro Negredo all making the headlines.
Before the rumours, there was one confirmed story as Harry Redknapp revealed that the club were in talks with William Gallas over extending the Frenchman’s contract. The former Chelsea and Arsenal defender has impressed in his debut season at White Hart Lane after signing a one-year deal in the summer following his release from North London rivals Arsenal. Regarding Gallas’ talks with chairman Daniel Levy, Redknapp said: “The
Meanwhile, rumours are abound that Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Charlie Adam, with boss Sir Alex Ferguson thought to be planning an £8 million summer bid for the Blackpool skipper. United are favourites to win the race for the sought-after Blackpool playmaker, who turned out for Scotland in their friendly against Brazil at the Emirates on Sunday.
Ferguson is also planning a summer move for Spurs’ playmaker Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutch international has been in sensational form since moving to White Hart Lane in a cut-price deal last summer. He has been instrumental in the club’s charge to the Champions League quarter-finals, and has helped keep them in the hunt for a top-four finish. The United boss is reportedly ready to offer £25 million for the former Real Madrid and Ajax star.
Ruud van Nistelrooy was another player linked to White Hart Lane, after he was quoted as saying: “I am thinking about a nice club in England after this season, if a really big European club does approach me, I will accept a role as reserve striker.” The former Manchester United striker is currently plying his trade in Germany with Hamburg, but is reportedly disillusioned after being denied a move back to former club Real Madrid in January. The 34-year-old former Holland international is out of contract in the summer, so Redknapp would be able to add him to his White Hart Lane squad on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo has pledged his future to the club amid speculation of a move to Spurs in the summer. The Spanish international, who left Real Madrid to join joined Sevilla in a £13 million deal in the summer of 2009, is the club’s top league scorer, after racking up 11 goals this term.
Negredo seems to have quashed rumours linking him with a move to White Hart Lane, by stating his desire to stay at his current club. “I feel more and more comfortable and relaxed here at Sevilla. I want to continue with this club and form a good partnership with Kanoute to bring more titles to Sevilla,” said the 25-year-old striker. Sevilla will be keen to hang on to their star forward following the exit of Luis Fabiano in January.
It promises to be an exciting summer for Spurs fans, and with renowned wheeler-dealer Harry Redknapp at the fore, more rumours of comings and goings can be expected over the next few months.
