Manchester City will not sell troubled striker Mario Balotelli this summer, according to manager Roberto Mancini.
The former Inter player has had his fair share of troubles during the early stages of his career and has missed large parts of the season with a persistent knee injury.
The 20-year-old has been in the newspapers a lot since his £24million move from Inter to City in the summer and has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan but City boss Roberto Mancini told Il Giorno: “The problem is that it’s written that the Rossoneri want him and that there’s an agreement, it creates confusion and tension.
“I personally don’t mind, but it’s unlikely that City will sell their good players. Mario was very unfortunate with his knee problems. But, if he wants, he’s in a position to change himself in games, but it depends on him.”
Given set for Villa.
Out of favour goalkeeper Shay Given could be set to leave Manchester City for Aston Villa this summer, The Daily Mail has revealed.
The Republic of Ireland international was displaced by 23-year-old Joe Hart at the beginning of the season and has been unable to regain his place in the City first-team.
The 34-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester throughout this campaign and said in January that he would be happy to move down the leagues if it meant a return to first-team football.
City admitted they would be willing to sell the former Newcastle star but only if they had someone ready to take his place in the squad.
Aston Villa are on the market for a new shot stopper as Brad Friedel is out of contract in the summer and Gerard Houillier has set his sights on Given as the ideal replacement for the American.
Manchester City may be without Micah Richards for the next few weeks as the Blues right-back has injured his hamstring playing for England Under 21s.
Stuart Pearce, manager of the England Under 21s, says the 22-year-old fears the worst and believes he will not be fit enough to face Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final.
Pearce told Eurosport: “He’s got a hamstring problem and he’s diagnosed himself as being out for four weeks – that’s Dr Richards for you.
“That could be four days though, as that’s him diagnosing himself! Let’s hope for Manchester City’s sake and the preparation in the summer (UEFA Under-21 Championship) that it’s not too long.”
