Former Germany star striker Oliver Bierhoff has advised promising Schalke ‘keeper Manuel Neuer to make a move abroad, having recently been strongly linked with a switch to Manchester United.
Bierhoff, who scored 37 goals in 70 caps for Germany, had a glittering career after leaving the Bundesliga for Serie A, and believes German goalkeeper would benefit from doing the same. Quoted on Sky
“I was a young player when I went to Italy and it was good for me. He will fit into the English game. He has to play. He can become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”
Manchester United are known to be in the market for a replacement for Edwin van der Sar, who is set to retire at the end of the season, and in addition to their interest in Neuer, are also considering Athletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea.
