Crouch sending off was “rash” says Jenas

Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes the sending off of Peter Crouch in the 4-0 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday night was “rash”.

Jenas was brought into the starting line-up at the last minute, after Aaron Lennon was adjudged to be too ill to take part. But the former Newcastle man feels the referee, Felix Brych, showed “inexperience” in showing the red card to the England striker so early on.

Talking to Sky Sports, Jenas said: “I think the referee was a little bit rash. Maybe it was inexperience on his part more than anything.

“At some point you have a word, you just talk to the player, rather than dishing out cards every two minutes.”

Meanwhile, Lennon, who was taken ill immmediately before kick-off, has said via Twitter that he will not be made a scapegoat for the defeat, saying that the club doctors had been helping him with his illness since Sunday, and were well aware of his condition.
