Manchester City’s FA Cup semi-final hero Yaya Toure says winning the FA Cup with the Blues will be his greatest achievement in football.
The 27-year-old has won a lot of trophies and medals throughout his career, including La Liga, twice, the Copa Del Rey, Champions League, Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, during his three years with Barcelona.
The Ivorian, who scored the winning goal against Manchester United on Saturday to send his team into the final, believes an FA Cup winners’ medal would top the lot.
He told the Manchester Evening News: “I won many trophies at Barcelona but this one would be very special because the club has waited for so long and I want to be part of this history. It was amazing to score the goal that got us to the final, for a club which has not won a cup in my life.
“This is why I came to City, because I want to be a part of making history.
“At the start of the season we told you we wanted Champions League football and to win a trophy and now we can do both.”
de Jong: First trophy of many.
Nigel de Jong believes winning the FA Cup will lead to a lot more trophies for Manchester City in the near future, The Times has revealed.
The former Ajax midfielder believes victory over Stoke in the FA Cup final will feed the players hunger for more trophies.
The Dutchman said: “Obviously, we put a statement out there for the other teams.
“It’s a big step forwards for us. Everyone was talking about City spending all this money and seeking out prizes and now we’re only one game away from winning our first silverware.
“For me, you’ve got to keep the guys hungry as well. You’ve got to start somewhere to feed that hunger and we did that.”
Duo make team fo the year.
Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez and centre-back Vincent Kompany were both named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
Tevez, who has scored 19 league goals this season, was partnered up front with Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov and Vincent Kompany was paired with United star Nemanja Vidic in the centre of defence.
The Belgian defender has been a key player for City this season and his team mate Aleksandar Kolarov has tipped the 25-year-old to become a better player than Vidic.
