Wenger: We don’t need to spend big

According to recent reports, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will have around £40m to spend in the Summer on new signings, but he has revealed he has no intention of doing so if the right players are not available.

The Gunners have won just one game in their last eight in all competitions, and many supporters and pundits have indicated the need for reinforcements. However Wenger, talking to the official Arsenal website, told that there is little need: “We have not completely checked out our financial position. The only thing I can say is that the club is in a healthy financial situation and, if needed, we can make a big transfer.”

Even if the money does become available, Wenger is clear he does not expect a busy Summer in the transfer market: “The team is 23 years old [on average], so why should we expect to have a huge turnover at the end of the season?”
