Barcelona launch new home and away kits

Barcelona have unveiled their history-making new home and away kits for the 2011/12 season. The Catalans had announced earlier on in the campaign that they will bear the name of a commercial sponsor on their shirts for the first time in their history. The state-dependent ‘The Qatar Foundation’ signed a five year sponsorship deal with the club back in December; a deal that will see the Catalan club gain a net profit of 150 million Euros. At thirty million Euros a season, the Catalans will earn twice as much as rivals Real Madrid who have a contract with betting firm ‘BWIN’.

‘Unicef’, who were the first official ‘sponsors’ of the club (Barca in fact paid them money rather than the other way round) will see their logo move to the lower back of the new shirt. In another break with recent tradition, the club will adopt an all-black away strip rather than flamboyant, vivid colours seen over the last few years.
