Blackburn assistant manager signs new deal

Blackburn Rovers’ assistant manager John Jensen has signed a new one-year rolling contract to continue working alongside manager Steve Kean.

The 46-year-old Dane initially arrived at Ewood Park on a short-term deal in January and has quickly become a popular figure among the backroom staff.

Speaking about the deal – which has been announced just a day after Rovers secured their Premier League status – the former Arsenal player said: “To be asked to stay on means an awful lot to me.“

Jensen added: “It is apparent to me that the Premier League is by far and away the best competition in the world and to be able to be part of it at a club as good as this is very exciting.”

The fact that manager Kean’s number two has now signed a new deal suggests that the Scot is also likely to stay in his role.

“John quickly proved to me that he has all the qualities necessary to fulfil the role of assistant manager, not least loyalty and trust,” said Kean.

“He is a football man and we share the same philosophies. I’m delighted that he has agreed to continue with us and see him playing a big part in our future.”
