Chelsea join Man Utd in Modric race

Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Tottenham’s Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, according to the News of the World.

Modric, 25, recently told the Daily Mail that he was happy to stay at Spurs despite missing out on Champions League football next year, however, it is thought that the club could force his hand if they receive a big enough bid.

Currently valued at around £25m, Chelsea would not be put off by the price-tag, and any deal would provide Spurs manager Harry Redknapp the funds to make a big money move for a top-quality striker, along with another central midfielder.

Manchester United were previously thought to be favourites to land the former Dinamo Zagreb star, with a money plus Dimitar Berbatov deal rumoured, and a similar bid with Didier Drogba could materialise from Chelsea.
