Chelsea have been crowned the Barclay’s Premier Reserve League national champions after a penalties victory over Blackburn at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues side came back from being a goal down to set up a thrilling victory that ended on penalties. The shootout ended 5-4 in favour of the Stamford Bridge side. Ross Turnbull managed to save a Michael Potts spot kick with his legs, which gave Chelsea the advantage and it was young Chelsea starlet Michael Woods who handled to pressure to slot home the perfect penalty and give Blues fans a reason to celebrate.
The youngsters coming out of the Chelsea academy look more impressive every season. A welcome boost for everyone in and around the club. Even more impressive was their ability to handle the pressure of a penalty shoot-out. Perhaps we could witness an end to the cash splashing days of Roman Abramovich, considering the talent within the club seems so promising.
