Liverpool target Stewart Downing has stalled on contract talks with his current club Aston Villa, Sky Sports reports.
The 26-year-old is reportedly a target for Reds manager Kenny Dalglish and despite rumours that Villa are prepared to make Downing the highest paid player at the club, the England international wideman is seeking a move away from Villa Park. Downing said: ‘I am 26 and at a major crossroads in my career, so I won’t be committing to a new deal at the moment’. With two years left on his current deal at the Midlands side, Villa assistant manager Gary McAllister will hope to hold on to Downing. However, Downing has admitted that the injury he held last season has placed his ambition into focus and he wants to be playing regularly in European football.

Adam open to exit.
Blackpool captain Charlie Adam is set to spark a bidding war between Liverpool and Tottenham after stating that he wants to leave the Seasiders.
The Daily Mail reports that Adam, who pulled in a series of impressive performances as Blackpool were sadly relegated from the top flight, sees his future in the Premier League and wants away from Bloomfield Road. Blackpool this week activated a further one year deal onto his contract, but that does not seem enough to keep the Scotsman at Blackpool. Adam said: ‘It’s not for me to decide what happens next in my career, but everyone knows that I want to play in the Premier League.’ Both Liverpool and Tottenham had bids rejected in January for the midfielder, but any bid that comes in now will surely be accepted by the Blackpool board, as they look to reshuffle their squad to try and bounce back to the Premier League first time.
Dalglish wants defensive duo.
In an attempt to strengthen his defence, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish will swoop for both Birmingham central defender Scott Dann and Celtic left back Emilio Izaguirre, The Mirror reports.
Following Birmingham’s drop to the Championship, Scott Dann, who is a boyhood Liverpool fan, will be a target for most Premier League sides and the Reds seem to have won the battle with a reported offer of £10m set to test manager Alex McLeish. Another need for Liverpool manager Dalglish is a left back and the 25 year old Honduran Izaguirre seems to be a likely fit, with Izaguirre himself saying he was flattered at the Liverpool interest. The Celtic man said: ‘It is flattering for any player of course, when somebody like Liverpool shows an interest in your services’. Izaguirre has impressed all in his first season in Scotland, winning Celtic’s Player of the Year and all the top player orientated awards in Scotland, including the Football Writers’ Player of the Year prize.
