Liverpool duo Andy Carroll and Jay Spearing have both been omitted from the England Under-21 squad for the European Championships in Denmark this summer.
Carroll, who signed for the Reds for £35 million in the January transfer window, has been hampered by a knee problem for the last few weeks and England Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce is giving Carroll the chance to rest over the summer. Midfielder Spearing picked up an injury on the final day of the season after just 15 minutes of the game against Aston Villa. Spearing didn’t make the cut for the 23 man squad for the Championships after being drafted into the provisional 40 man squad for the injured Bolton midfielder Mark Davies.

Aurelio to fight for place.
Fabio Aurelio insists he will stay and fight for his place at Liverpool and be a part of the future with Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool Echo reports.
The 31-year-old Brazilian has been plagued with injuries this season and has one year remaining on his contract. Aurelio, who made his return on the final day of the season in the 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa, has set his sights on maintaining his fitness and holding down a regular place in the first team. The defender said: ‘I believe that I have the right ability to fight for a place in the team. My worries are about myself and making sure I’m fit and available.’ Aurelio joined Liverpool from Valencia on a Bosman transfer in 2006.
Reds in for Brum defender.
Birmingham City defender Scott Dann is a wanted target for a number of Premier League clubs, with Liverpool at the top of the list.
Sky Sports reports Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish wants the 24 year old to bolster his defence for the top four tilt he expects his side to make. There has been a long term interest in Dann from the Reds and he is thought to be high on the list of Dalglish’s summer targets. Dann’s impressive form before his injury this season helped Birmingham to win the League Cup, but his injury in the final ruled him out for the remainder of the season and without him, Birmingham were relegated to the Championship after a string of poor defensive performances. The defensive ability of Dann makes him a wanted target for Kenny Dalglish and he will look to bring in the defender as quick as possible to integrate him with the squad.
