Michael Essien against the rest of the world

In an exciting encounter on Wednesday afternoon, Michael Essien led an Africa XI team against a Rest of the World side to promote the African Union’s Make Peace Happen campaign, for which the Chelsea midfielder is an ambassador.

The game ended 4-2 in favour of the Rest of the World side, with three Chelsea players finding the net. Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Ashley Cole were among those names on the score sheet.

The match was played at a packed Ohene Djan Stadium with an incredible atmosphere, as the fans cheered the players with music, singing and vuvuzelas long before kick-off.

The promotion was a success and Essien and co. now return to England before linking up with their international sides, leaving behind what had been an amazing and entertaining experience for all.
