Blackburn Rovers’ teenage sensation Phil Jones has been named in Stuart Pearce’s 23-man squad for next month’s European Under-21 Championship.
Jones’ inclusion will come as no real surprise to those who have witnessed his superb displays over the past year or so.
The highly-rated youngster burst on to the Premier League scene with an outstanding debut performance against Chelsea last season.
The 19-year-old, who can play in both defence and midfield, already has 35 top-flight appearances under his belt.
Jones, who is a firm fans’ favourite at Ewood Park, is one of the most highly sought-after players in England and all of the current top six clubs have been linked with him in the past.
However, the youngster recently signed a lengthy new contract with Rovers which runs until the summer of 2016.
Former Rovers goalkeeper Frank Fielding, who signed permanently for Derby County earlier this month, has also been named in the squad.
