Tottenham news – Harry wants Stekelenburg, Spurs eye Foster, Speed: Bale needs Champions League

Spurs want Foster.

After a couple of recent howlers that have cost Spurs a top four place Harry Redknapp is looking to replace goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes. The error prone goalie has cost Spurs valuable points against Chelsea and Blackpool recently.

Despite being publicly backed by Redknapp the Daily Mirror reports that the manager is keeping a close eye on Ben Foster, the Birmingham keeper. After an impressive season Redknapp believes that Foster’s consistency is something they need after Gomes’ recent mistakes. The only issue they may face is prising him away from the club he joined last summer.

Speed: Bale needs Champions League.

The Welsh manager Gary Speed has warned Gareth Bale that he may have to leave Spurs this summer in order to play Champions League football. After losing to Manchester City last night Spurs are unable to qualify for next season’s competition.

In an interview in the Daily Mail Speed said: “I reckon its important for all the players to play as high as possible and Champions League football is a place where Gareth has shined this year, and the more you play on the worlds biggest stage the better.”

With some of Europe’s top clubs lining up for his signature Spurs face a fight to hang onto their Welsh starlet.

Harry wants Stekelenburg.

The Daily Mail has also reported that Harry Redknapp has lost faith in Heurelho Gomes. However, this source states that he is weighing up bids for Stekelenburg and Shay Given.

The Ajax keeper only has one year remaining on his contract and is likely to be sold this summer. The Dutch number one should be available for about £9m the Mail reports, although Spurs are not the only interested club.

The Manchester City goalie Shay Given is desperate to leave after losing his place to Joe Hart at the beginning of the season. However, it is unlikely that City would want to sell to one of their rivals.
