Arsenal news – Dann emerges on Wenger’s radar, Campbell urges Wenger to spend, Vieira has coaching choice

Dann emerges on Wenger’s radar.

In his continuing search for a central defender Arsene Wenger has cast his eye towards Scott Dann of Birmingham. After having little success with the likes of Gary Cahill and Chris Samba Wenger has been enquiring about the possibility of a move for the 24 year old. However the price rumoured to be demanded by the relegated Birmingham is £12m and which the Arsenal manager deems unreasonable.

The People report that Wenger is facing competition from the likes of Liverpool, Aston Villa and Stoke for Dann’s signature but none of the above value the centre-back around the £12m mark.

Vieira has coaching choice.

French midfielder Patrick Vieira has claimed that he has been offered a coaching role at both Arsenal and Manchester City. The 35 year old was told that he was surplus to requirements at the Eastlands but according to The Metro Mancini still wishes to see the World Cup winner stay at the club and help other players.

However City’s offer could well be scuppered by a rival bid from Arsene Wenger who would love to see Vieira’s fighting spirit back that the Emirates.

A spokesperson for Vieira noted that while there were a number of choices available to the former player he was yet to make up his mind about his future.

Campbell urges Wenger to spend.

Former Arsenal star Sol Campbell has urged Arsene Wenger to spend in order to attract top level defenders to the club this summer. The Daily Mail quoted Campbell saying: ‘Sometimes you need big-time players and he might have to go for a couple of older players who are bit savvy in the Premier League and can transfer it to Europe.’

However Campbell was quick to defend his successors as well, claiming that bad luck and injuries were the major factor behind the club’s trophy drought.

‘I think it’s down to bad luck. In the Carling Cup final, Birmingham scored the winner and it was just a case of being unlucky.’ Campbell played for the Gunners in two separate spells the first of which was over five years.
