Celtic news – Hoops track Israeli star, Stokes urges Danns move, Brown rejects Magpies link

Hoops track Israeli star.

STV reports that Celtic are tracking Maccabi Petah Tivka striker Omer Damari with reports in Israel claiming there has already been a verbal offer of £1.8m for the player.

The 22-year-old Israeli international scored 12 league goals from 30 games last season and Hoops midfielder Beram Kayal says both Celtic and the player have asked him his opinion on a possible switch.

“Omar and I talked in January and also less than two months ago,” said Kayal. “Damari asked me about the offer and I gave him a strong recommendation. Celtic then asked me what I know about him. I told them that Omar is one of the top strikers in Israel and has everything needed to succeed.

“With his speed and understanding of the game, he can reach high levels,” he added.

Brown rejects Magpies link.

Scott Brown has rejected talk linking him with Premiership club Newcastle United, according to the Daily Record. The Celtic skipper says he has ignored all the speculation and claims he wants to win more trophies at Parkhead.

“I’ve heard all the stuff about Newcastle but I haven’t paid the slightest attention to it,” he said. “I am captain of Celtic Football Club, why would I even think about going anywhere else?

“A few weeks ago I had the privilege of lifting my first piece of silverware since being given the armband 18 months ago. As the gaffer himself said, ‘this is not the end it’s only the beginning’.

He added: “I have a hunger to win more trophies as Celtic captain so that I can look back at my time at the club and consider myself to have been a success.”

Stokes urges Danns move.

Anthony Stokes has urged Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns to move to Parkhead and snub Glasgow Rangers, says Sky Sports News.

Danns, 28, is a free agent and both Celtic and Rangers have already confirmed their interest in signing him. However, Stokes played with Danns during a loan spell at Selhurst Park two seasons ago and would love to see him at Parkhead.

“I’m not surprised ourselves and Rangers are both looking at Neil and have been trying to sign him,” said Stokes.

“He is a guy who could be a big success in the SPL. I can only judge him on the time I spent with him at Palace and he was excellent for us back then.

“Obviously I’m biased, but if I get the chance to speak to Neil I’d tell him to join me at Celtic.”
