Celtic news – Izaguirre on Glasgow, Slovenian almost joined Celtic, McGinn set for loan exit

Slovenian almost joined Celtic.

According to Sky Sports News, KAA Gent central defender Marko Suler claims he came close to joining Celtic last summer.

The 28-year-old, capped 27 times for Slovenia, was strongly linked with a move to the SPL giants but the anticipated switch failed to materialise.

Suler has now confirmed he thought the deal was done, but admits that he is happy in Belgium and was glad it did not go through.

“Everything was agreed and I really don’t know why the transfer was cancelled, but I must admit that I wasn’t really too eager to move. Mainly because of my family.

“A transfer like that was a big step, which leads to a completely different lifestyle. I think that I was right,” he added.

McGinn set for loan exit.

Neil McGinn´s agent Gerry Carlile has suggested his client may have to go out on loan to prove to boss Neil Lennon he his good enough for first team football.

“As far as I am concerned, Neil Lennon still has Niall in his thoughts,” Carlile told STV. “The players who were on the fringes and were moving on were told at the end of the season – and Niall wasn’t in that bracket.

“But he wants to play. Maybe a loan spell, where he can get a run of games together, would be something to explore. If a loan comes off, it will be done with a view to making him a better player in the long run for Celtic.”

The 23-year-old Northern Ireland international has found Kris Commons, Shaun Maloney and James Forrest all before him in the pecking order.

Izaguirre on Glasgow.

Celtic´s Honduran international Emilio Izaguirre has spoken of life in Glasgow after an impressive debut season saw him linked with a number of clubs.

The Honduran, currently sidelined with a hamstring injury which has forced him to miss the CONCACAF Gold Cup, told La Prensa de Honduras: “A lot of people have congratulated me on what I have done at Celtic, but first of all I needed to learn the language.

“I have lessons then study at home, and have learned a lot. I have also had to learn to drive on the left-hand side, but I have not had any collisions as I only drive at between 20 and 30mph. Not like in Honduras,” he laughed.

“I live on the outskirts of Glasgow and I have little time to see people. I have to play Wednesday and Sunday.”
