Demba Ba set for Newcastle move

Newcastle are closing in on their second signing of the summer with Demba Ba set to join from West Ham. Ba is available on a free transfer following the Hammers’ relegation from the top flight last season.

It is believed that the Magpies have beaten off competition from a number of their Premier League rivals to secure the Senegal international’s signature. Ba scored seven goals in only 10 league starts last campaign after joining West Ham from Hoffenheim.

Meanwhile it has emerged that striker Leon Best could depart following Ba’s arrival. The Journal reports that Newcastle are looking for around £4 million for the Republic of Ireland international. Coach Alan Pardew is keen to continue strengthening his forward line and it appears that Best is not part of his future plans.
