Liverpool news – Cash and players Adam bid, Doni turned down ‘Pool, Reina backs De Gea

Cash and players Adam bid.

According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool are planning to sign Charlie Adam with a cash plus two players deal. Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston is reportedly keen on gaining £12m from Adam.

The Reds had been in discussions over a £10m offer for the 26 year old, but with Oyston’s firm beliefs, Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli will offer £8m cash plus Jonjo Shelvey and youngster Stephen Darby on season long loans.

Adam’s transfer has been a lengthy and arduous process for the Reds, with their interest stemming way back to January. Blackpool have been indecisive over their options and tried to tie Charlie Adam down long-term at the end of last season, but they have been unsuccessful and a move away from Bloomfield Road is definitely on the cards for the Scottish midfielder.

Doni turned down ‘Pool.

AS Roma goalkeeper Doni has revealed that he turned down a move to Liverpool, because he was not prepared to take a big pay cut, The Liverpool Echo reports.

The Reds were keen to bring in the Brazilian to provide backup for current Liverpool number 1 Pepe Reina, but a deal could not be agreed and now the 31 year old is a target for Spanish side Atletico Madrid. Doni has rubbished such claims and looks like he will stay at the Stadio Olimpico next year.

Doni said: ‘I have only received an official offer from Liverpool, but I could not accept these conditions. I would have had my salary cut by 60%. I am unwilling to give away money.’

In 2008, Doni signed a five year contract extension with the Italian side and has claimed that he has ‘given a knee for Roma’s cause’.

Reina backs De Gea.

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has backed fellow Spaniard David De Gea to do well in the Premier League with Manchester United, talkSPORT reports.

De Gea is expected to complete his move to the Premier League champions before the start of the season and there are question marks over whether he has enough experience, at 20 years of age, to fill Edwin Van der Sar’s boots at Old Trafford. Reina has assured that De Gea is good enough to succeed at United and will do incredibly well.

Reina said: ‘I very much welcome this news, because David is a great keeper. When it becomes official, he is going to start working to prove in the Premier League what a good goalkeeper he is’.

Atletico Madrid, De Gea’s current employers, are preparing themselves for a new goalkeeper and the 28 year old Reina could be a potential replacement for De Gea. Liverpool’s number one has ruled himself out of the race however, saying he has a five year deal and he is happy.
