The Sun reports that Sylvain Marveaux is set to sign for Liverpool on a free transfer. The former Rennes man confirmed last month that he was moving to the Premier League, after his contract at the Ligue 1 side expired.
Marveaux is expected to join the club on a five year deal worth around £60,000 a week. Liverpool have always been favourites to sign the 25 year old, who is primarily a left sided midfield player, and reports suggested that he held talks with Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli earlier this year. Marveaux claimed he had not chosen to sign for when Comolli spoke to him, but Liverpool have now emerged as the favourites to bring the former France under 21 international to England.
The arrival of Marveaux will surely see the end of Milan Jovanovic’s time at Anfield. Jovanovic has endured a nightmare season in Liverpool after his free transfer switch last summer from Standard Liege and Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is looking to offload the Serbian before the start of the season to make room for the arrival of players such as Marveaux.

Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign in search of a top four finish with a home tie against Sunderland, the former club of new £20 million man Jordan Henderson.
Henderson left the Black Cats last week to join Liverpool and should he be in the squad for the game at Anfield on the 13th August, it will be interesting to see what type of reception he gets off the travelling Wearside fans.
On the final day of the season, Liverpool will travel away to newly promoted side against Swansea, which could be a decisive game in the race for either relegation for Swansea or the Champions League qualification finish Liverpool are desiring.
The first Merseyside derby of the season will come on October 1st with an away trip to Goodison Park for Kenny Dalglish’s men. October is a tough month for the Reds with Manchester United at home following the Everton fixture.
New Kyrgiakos deal.
Liverpool defender Sotiris Kyrgiakos has signed a further 12 month contract extension on his current contract at Anfield, the Daily Mail reports.
The Greek central defender originally joined on a two year deal at the start of the 2009/2010 and in that agreement, a clause was written that Kyrgiakos would have the right to extend another year, if he played a certain amount of games. During his time on Merseyside, Kyrgiakos has made 30 league appearances for the Reds.
Kyrgiakos’ chances could be further limited next season with the club looking to strengthen the central defence with players such as Birmingham’s Scott Dann and Bolton’s Gary Cahill. The former AEK Athens defender and former Greek international is now 32 and will expect to see his chances limited at Anfield next season.
