Liverpool news – Reds near Adam agreement, Boudebouz next target, Downing looks to force move

Reds near Adam agreement.

Liverpool are closing in on Blackpool captain Charlie Adam after the reports that Reds midfielder Raul Meireles is set to leave the club, The Liverpool Daily Post reports.

Damien Comolli, Liverpool’s director of football, is set to holds talks with Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston about a possible switch to Anfield for the Scottish midfielder. The 25 year old Adam is desperate to play in the Premier League again, after last season’s relegation with Blackpool from the top flight, and Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is hopeful that an agreement can be reached.

Blackpool rejected an £8m offer from Liverpool for Adam back in January and it is believed that the Seasiders are holding out for £10m, before they do business with Liverpool. Adam only has one year left on his Blackpool contract and they will be looking to sell him for a profit this summer, after signing him from Rangers for a club record £500,000 in the summer of 2009.

Downing looks to force move.

Aston Villa wideman Stewart Downing could hand in a transfer request at Villa Park in order to force a move through to Liverpool, The Mirror reports.

The 26 year old has been the subject of summer rumours about a move to Anfield, but the £19 million suggested price tag that Villa have placed on Downing could deter a switch to Merseyside. The England international has yet to sign a new deal at Villa Park and sparked speculation by doing so, with Liverpool being the main target for the former Middlesbrough man.

Villa boss Alex McLeish has insisted that he would like to keep Downing at the club, but Downing forced a move from Middlesbrough to Villa when he submitted a transfer request. Now, as he looks to move on to Anfield, there is a distinct possibility that he would do the same again. Villa chairman Randy Lerner is unlikely to budge from his price tag on the Englishman, afte forking out £12m for Downing back in 2009.

Boudebouz next target.

The Sun reports that Liverpool have stepped up their chase to sign Sochaux playmaker Ryed Boudebouz. Damien Comolli tried to sign the 21 year old back in January, but his bid was rejected by the French club.

Officials at the Reds are set to fly out to Sochaux to try and thrash out a deal for the Algerian international with Boudebouz rated at £5m. Sochaux clinched an Europa League berth last season under Boudebouz’s abilities with the Algerian scoring eight goals in his 38 appearances.

Boudebouz said: ‘Things happen quickly in football. I will only say that I am no longer certain of staying put at Sochaux’. Boudebouz’s representatives are set to meet with Liverpool officials, once a fee has been agreed between the two clubs.

The Algerian is one of many targets for Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging on both a domestic and European front.
