Liverpool face a battle for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam, as new Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is now interested in the Scotsman.
The Daily Star reports that although Liverpool are still leading the race for the Blackpool captain, McLeish has touted Adam as his big summer signing. McLeish used to manage Adam at Rangers and is hoping this former experience with the midfielder will sway Adam’s decision.
Reds manager Kenny Dalglish still looks set to sign the 26 year old Adam, whose performances in the Premier League last season has fuelled a desire to stay in England’s top flight. The lure of potential Champions League football and challenging for the Premier League title could bring Adam to Anfield this summer, if Liverpool match Blackpool’s valuation of around £10 million.

Praise for Lucas.
Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio has hailed Brazilian compatriot Lucas Leiva as a key player for the Reds, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Lucas was named the player of the year for the Reds last season after a string of impressive central midfield performances and has grown in stature since the departure of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano from Anfield. Aurelio now believes that the supporters who were critical of Lucas’ talent are now pleased with the change in performance the former Gremio man has made.
Aurelio said: ‘He is much more mature, stronger physically and knows more about how to win games. He has shown great personality and capability to change things around. He was patient and remained concentrated on his work and now we can see that he is a man who can do the job.’
Reds on international duty.
Liverpool players were on international duty this weekend as the England under 21s and the England under 17s went into action, the Liverpool Echo reports.
New Reds signing Jordan Henderson was substituted shortly into the second half as the under 21s crashed out of the European Championships with a 2-1 defeat to Czech Republic. Henderson failed to find his best form in the tournament and will be hoping to find some better form when he returns for pre-season training at Melwood in July.
Four Liverpool academy players featured in the England under 17s friendly match against Rwanda, which the young Lions won 2-0. The second goal was a superb 25 yard strike from Liverpool striker Raheem Sterling. Valuable contributions came from fellow Reds defenders Brad Smith and Matthew Regan and striker Adam Morgan.
