Former Liverpool player Ronnie Whelan has tipped Jordan Henderson to be a fine player for the Reds, The Liverpool Echo reports. Whelan made 493 appearances in 13 years at Anfield and believes the Wearsider will be a welcome addition to manager Kenny Dalglish’s squad.
Whelan said: ‘He looks a very good player. He is talked about as being one of England’s young talents, so it appears to be a good signing for Liverpool. He looks like an all-round player and will add plenty to Kenny’s squad.’
Henderson’s imminent signing means Liverpool now hold a wealth of options in the centre of midfield. Young talents Jay Spearing and Jonjo Shelvey are vying for places, along with Liverpool’s player of the season Lucas Leiva, captain Steven Gerrard and Raul Meireles. Whelan has said that Liverpool have signed Henderson as a central midfielder, although the 20 year old can play right side of midfield, and he can help Liverpool go to the next level.

Strikers on target.
Liverpool strikers Dirk Kuyt and Luis Suarez both scored as their respective countries Holland and Uruguay faced off in the Copa Confraternidad, Sky Sports reports.
Uruguay came out on top in the penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw in normal time. Suarez broke the deadlock eight minutes from time for the South Americans after a superb run from highly-rated prospect Edinson Cavani set up the Liverpool frontman. However, Kuyt made it all square and sent the game to penalties with a superb header in injury time.
Also, Liverpool’s player of the season Lucas played in Brazil’s 1-0 friendly victory over Romania with Fred scoring the only goal in what was Brazilian legend Ronaldo’s final match for his country.
Aquilani to stay.
Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani looks to be staying at Anfield after Juventus opted against signing the midfielder, the Daily Mail reports. Aquilani spent last season on loan at the Serie A club, but new Juventus manager Antonio Conte has decided not to take up the option of signing him on a permanent basis.
Juventus’ board had gave Aquilani assurances that they would like to permanently sign the Italian international, but manager Conte has decided that he has no room for Aquilani and the midfielder does not feature in his plans. Aquilani would prefer to stay in Italy, where his wife and young daughter want to live, but if reported club AC Milan do not make an offer, the 26 year old will have to move back to Merseyside.
Dalglish has 10 senior midfielders on his books at Liverpool and Aquilani, along with Christian Poulsen and Joe Cole, were supposed to be the three that the Liverpool manager wanted to offload this summer. Dalglish is said to be fuming at Juventus, after it was reported an £8 million transfer fee had been agreed in January, but Juventus turned their backs on the deal this summer. Aquilani joined Liverpool for £17 million from AS Roma.
