It wasn’t the smoothest transfer in history but within minutes of Phil Jones completing his move from Blackburn Rovers to Manchester United the 19 year old was on Twitter telling his followers: “I’d just like to start off by saying that I’ve loved my time at Blackburn and I will always be a huge fan… But this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I am looking forward to a new challenge. Thank you for all your kind messages.”
Fellow Red Michael Owen also tweeted that the move was “great news” on the back of his own contract extension at the club.

Ozil links resurface.
Despite being almost certain to break the £50m spending mark this summer on Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David De Gea Manchester United are still being linked with a host of players including Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil in today‘s Telegraph. However the German international has no intention of moving and has declared he is very happy at Madrid. The midfielder said: “I do not move from Madrid” and his agent echoed his thoughts adding that “Ozil is very happy to be at Madrid.”
United were heavily linked with Ozil the previous summer before the former Werder Bremen player eventually signed for Madrid for around €16m.
Scholes reveals reasons for retirement.
Paul Scholes has revealed that the decision for him to retire was taken purely on physical grounds. Over the last few seasons the technical ability and reading of the game was as sharp as ever but Scholes confirmed that his legs were no longer able to go at the pace his brain demanded. “You’re at a top club with the best players and you just have to realise your legs can’t do what you want them to do,” the former England star told The Sun.
Although Scholes had the option of another year at Old Trafford and Sir Alex Ferguson encouraged him to take it the midfielder has no regrets about his decision. “It’s something I’m still getting used to, but I knew it was the right time.”
