Man Utd news – Young speaks of Utd delight, Valencia confident on future, Varane deal no-go

Young speaks of Utd delight.

New Manchester United player Ashley Young has revealed how he could not pass up the chance to join ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’ and has already set his sights on winning United’s 20th league title this season, The Guardian has revealed.

United beat off competition from league rivals Liverpool to signing the 25-year-old from Aston Villa for a fee of about £15million.

After signing a five-year contract with the Red Devils, Young told how excited he was to join the English champions, adding that he will miss Aston Villa: “I am going to miss Villa – they have been fantastic and helped me along – but to have the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world is one that I couldn’t turn down.

“To come here and play with such great players and have the chance to be part of a team that hopefully wins a 20th title would be amazing.”

He added: “You get a great feeling that one of the greatest managers in the world wants to sign you and one of the greatest clubs in the world wants to buy you.

“As soon as I got the call, I wanted to get things sorted, get the papers signed and get back in to training.”

Valencia confident on future.

Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia says the arrival of Ashley Young to the side does not faze him as he is confident he can keep his place in the team.

New arrival Young will be in contention with Valencia and Nani for a place in Sir Alex Ferguson’s starting eleven but the Ecuadorian has welcomed the former Aston Villa star to the team and is relishing the extra competition.

He told Sky Sports: “I heard about this on the news – I do not fear his arrival. The season is long, and under Alex Ferguson everyone will get their chance in United’s key matches.

“Ashley is a good footballer and I believe that he will help us towards even more success next season.

“As for myself, I have two seasons left at United and I am convinced I will fulfil those. And maybe a few more years, too.”

Varane deal no-go.

Sir Alex Ferguson has missed out on the signing of teenage sensation Raphael Varane after Lens announced the defender will be joining Real Madrid this summer for £10million, says The Independent.

The 19-year-old had attracted the attention from some of the biggest clubs in Europe and made the decision this week to join Jose Mourinho’s side after speaking to Zinedine Zidane.

Lens president, Gervais Martel, has described the youngster as a ‘phenomenon’ and says he is happy to let the youngster move in order to fulfil his potential and ambition: “He is a great lad and he will be wearing the Real shirt next season. They have been in touch with him for the last two months and he has been over to visit their training ground. He said to me that he could not turn down this kind of opportunity. The move has not been agreed because of money. It is about his career and he is going to a club with a lot of ambition.”
