Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has expressed his delight at securing the services of 40-year-old American goalkeeper Brad Friedel on a free transfer today.
Spurs have been on the lookout for a new ‘keeper after a series of costly mistakes by Brazilian stopper Heurelho Gomes, which led to Italian Carlo Cudicini playing the last few games of the season. Redknapp, who was previously thought to be interested in Birmingham’s Ben Foster, has acted early to bring in the former Liverpool man, and is delighted to have completed the deal.
Talking to the official Tottenham website, he said: “Brad is a top goalkeeper of real quality who has great experience. It is good to have three such experienced top goalkeepers at the Club in Gomes, Carlo and now Brad and it means we have competition for places particularly with the number of games we will hopefully face next year both domestically and in Europe as well.”
