Barcelona striker Soriano in injury setback

Jonathan Soriano has been dealt a severe blow with the news he has suffered ligament damage to his right knee following a clash with Bayern Munich centre-back Anatoliy Tymoshchuk during Barcelona´s 2-0 Audi Cup win on Wednesday evening. The 25-year-old is likely to be out for between six and eight weeks and will miss this week´s pre-season tour to the United States after originally being included in boss Pep Guardiola´s squad.

It is a particularly cruel setback for the former Espanyol player. Soriano had just started to attract the attention of Guardiola and a number of European and Spanish clubs after a prolific run of form with the Barcelona B side over the last two years, his 32 goals from 37 games last term earning him the title of La Segunda ´Pichichi`, the second division´s leading goalscorer.
