Barcelona target Jordi Alba

Barcelona have made Valencia left-back Jordi Alba their main target as they look to bolster their defence for the coming season.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo reports that after their failure to sign Jose Angel from Sporting Gijon the European champions have turned to 22-year-old Alba as a potential replacement for Maxwell, as the Brazilian has been to Premier League side Arsenal.

Alba, who was born in Catalonia and started his career in the Barcelona youth ranks before joining Valencia in 2006, has three years remaining on his contract, however Los Che could be persuaded to sell him for something in the region of €5m.

Barcelona have also targeted Jose Enrique and Joan Capdevila who are more experienced than the Spain Under-21 international, but Alba’s history in the Barcelona youth team and in Catalonia could weigh heavily in his favour and could earn him a return to the Camp Nou.
