Spain
Capdevila, 33, was a huge part of the Spanish national team in recent years winning the 2008 European Championships and the 2010 World Cup, but had fallen down the pecking order in towards the latter part of last season.
With the emergence of Jose Catala at El Madrigal limiting his options, Capdevila was keen for a move to guarantee first team action to help his bid for a place in Spain’s Euro 2012 squad.
The experienced attacking full-back, who started his career as a striker, is seen as the perfect replacement to the departing Fabio Coentrao who joined Real Madrid earlier this month. Capdevila becomes the fourth Spanish player at the Portuguese club joining fellow compatriots Javi Garcia, Nolito and Roberto.
