Bielsa and Bilbao start with a win as hopes of signing Aduriz look less likely

Marcelo Bielsa saw his Athletic Bilbao side make an impressive start to their season with a 3-0 win over UD Alzira.

Goals from Carlos Gurpegui and a brace from Fernando Llorente were enough to see off the Spanish Tercera side.

Meanwhile off the field, Bielsa has given the green light to UD Las Palmas in their pursuit of young left back Mikel Balenziaga. The 23-year-old has failed to break into the Bilbao side and enjoyed a good loan spell at Numancia last season. He is set to become the first player to leave under new coach Bielsa.

One player Marcelo Bielsa is hoping to bring to San Mames is Aritz Aduriz, in what would potentially be the former Bilbao striker’s third spell at the club. However, hopes of signing the 30-year-old look less likely after Aduriz has stated his desire to stay in Valencia. He also impressed current Coach Unai Emery with a fine performance and a goal in the club’s 2-0 friendly victory over PSV on Tuesday evening.
