Celtic news – Forster deal still alive, Ledley in Bellamy plea, Hoops, Swansea friendly

Forster deal still alive.

According to the Glasgow Evening Times, Celtic have been given fresh encouragement in their bid to bring Fraser Forster back to the club next season.

The giant Newcastle United goalkeeper spent a season-long loan at Parkhead last term and Toon boss Alan Pardew, after initially insisting he wanted Forster, Tim Krul and Steve Harper to battle for the No 1 jersey, now admits he is considering letting one of them leave.

Asked if he would be holding on to the trio, Pardew said: “Probably not, and that’s a situation we have to be very careful of.

“They’ve all got a chance to be No.1. So, when you become No.3 that is a major issue. That’s something we will have to deal with. It´s a great situation for me, but I do need to make a call.”

Ledley in Bellamy plea.

The Independent says Hoops midfielder Joe Ledley has urged fellow Welshman Craig Bellamy to return to Celtic Park.

The Manchester City striker spent four months on loan with Celtic in 2005 and spent last season on loan at hometown club Cardiff City, and does not fit into City boss Roberto Mancini´s plans for the forthcoming campaign.

Celtic are one of a host of clubs linked with Bellamy but Ledley thinks he should return north of the border: “Craig Bellamy would be a great signing,” said Ledley. “He has been here before and enjoyed it. I spoke to him at the end of the season and he has some big decisions to make, but I think he would like to come back. It would be nice to have him here again, but we also have great players here already.”

Hoops, Swansea friendly.

Celtic will face English Premier League new boys Swansea City in a friendly on Wednesday, August 3, reports STV.

The Hoops will already have played their first SPL game of the season by then but have chosen to opt out of the second week´s fixtures in order to travel to Dublin, where they will take on Inter Milan and a League of Ireland select side.

The match against the Welsh team will be the final friendly match for Neil Lennon´s men, who will then face a trip to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen in their second league fixture on Sunday, August 7.

A friendly with Wolverhampton Wanderers has also been arranged for either July 26 or July 27, with the date dependent on when Rangers are at home in the Champions League third qualifying round.
