Chelsea news – Blues to enter Nasri race, Cech backs Villas-Boas, Neymar to stay at Santos

Blues to enter Nasri race.

Chelsea could be set to challenge Manchester United for the signature of Samir Nasri, according to reports from ESPN Soccernet. The Blues who are on the lookout for a creative midfielder are believed to be considering Nasri as an alternative to Luka Modric.

The fact that Nasri is on the penultimate year of his current deal with Arsenal, while also refusing to sign an extension opens a window for Chelsea. The Gunners would also be looking to cash in on the French international this summer, rather than lose him for nothing next season.

The deal is believed to interest the Blues especially since Tottenham Hotspur have made it abundantly clear they will not entertain any bid from Chelsea for talented playmaker Luka Modric.

Cech backs Villas-Boas.

In an interview with BBC Radio 5, Petr Cech gave his backing to young manager Andre Villas-Boas. The Chelsea No. 1 revealed how he believes Villas-Boas is a great choice by the club and hopes that he will stay at Stamford Bridge for 25 years, like Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

When asked whether the age of the new Portuguese manager may be an issue to him or several senior players in the dressing room, Cech was quick to say: “In sports age is not a worry and if you have the quality and personality, it doesn’t matter whether you’re 30 or 45.”

The Czech international went on to say how the 33-year-old manager’s achievements in Porto point out the quality he brings to a club. And highlighted the fact that he believes Villas-Boas will have enough time to imprint his ideas and playing style into the side before the start of the season.

Neymar to stay at Santos.

Brazilian teenage sensation Neymar is now being tipped to remain at Santos, according to Sky Sports. The 19-year-old has attracted bids from all over Europe and at one stage Santos themselves had admitted to accepting bids from five clubs which met their expected price of £41m.

However, after the club’s victory in the Copa Libertadores which grants them the opportunity to compete in the Club World Cup in December, Santos are believed to have convinced Neymar to see out his contract and turn down any potential move.

Neymar himself announced that he has no intention of discussing a deal and now intends to see out his current contract, which runs until 2015.
