Chelsea news – Di Matteo positive, Kalou the cameraman, Cech backs Villas-Boas

Di Matteo positive.

Chelsea’s assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo is happy with how the club’s pre-season has gone on so far, according to Football365. The Blues have endured an unconvincing start to their campaign in Asia, where they have struggled to overcome weaker oppositions drawing some criticism along the way.

However the Italian believes there are other factors influencing the team’s performances and stressed that the goal of pre-season games is to reach full fitness.

“It’s been a bit difficult at the beginning with jet-lag, the humidity and heat. It will be good to measure ourselves and see what stage we are at against some English teams,” said Roberto.

The Blues who have spent the past week in Asia will face local side Kitchee in their next game.

Kalou the cameraman.

On the lighter side of the news, Salomon Kalou was up to antics which Chelsea fans would normally expect from David Luiz. On a recent pre-season flight to Bangkok the Chelsea winger got a little bored and hijacked a ChelseaTV camera before interviewing several of his team-mates including Fernando Torres, who was in unusually good spirits.

The video gave a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes at the Chelsea camp and fans would be very happy to see their stars getting along so well and sharing a good laugh.

The video can be seen on the Club’s Official YouTube Channel.

Cech backs Villas-Boas.

Petr Cech has called on the new Chelsea manager to match the standards set by Jose Mourinho at the club. According to Sky Sports, the Czech international believes that Mourinho set a standard at Chelsea which other managers have failed to live up to. The Chelsea No. 1 insists that unless Andre Villas-Boas can overcome the shadow of Jose he too may suffer the same fate as managers before him.

Speaking about the Villas-Boas, Cech said: “He has changed – from a person who was on the technical staff to being a manager – and I think that so far everything has been working well and I hope that will continue.”

Chelsea have struggled to find the net in the pre-season with Torres looking just as he did when he arrived in January. However, the Chelsea No. 1 offered his full backing to the striker, while also pointing out that the Blues always build from their defence and the fact they are yet to concede a goal is a good sign.
