Chelsea news – Fresh Modric approach, Blues win Barclays Asia Trophy, Villas-Boas impressed

Fresh Modric approach.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Luka Modric and Chelsea of late and the fact that Javier Pastore is believed to have signed with PSG, has now escalated talks around Chelsea’s pursuit of Luka Modric.

Blues chief executive Ron Gourlay plans to hold talks with the Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas about whether he sees Modric as a player needed for the squad. Chelsea are reportedly willing to offer an improved bid for the Tottenham star, but will not do so without the consent of the manager.

“I don’t like talking about players from other clubs, but that’s something we’ll look at during the week and we’ll take it from there. We really need to sit down with Andre and talk this through,” Gourlay told Sky Sports News.

Blues win Barclays Asia Trophy.

Chelsea managed to finish their tour of Asia on a high note by beating Aston Villa to claim the Barclays Asia Trophy. The Blues had started their pre-season with unconvincing victories but managed to put together a dominating display on Saturday.

Josh McEachran opened the scoring for Chelsea in just over 30 seconds from the first whistle. And in the second half Fernando Torres came on to put the game to rest with his second goal of the pre-season.

However, the most important thing for the Blues was that every player seemed sharp on the field. Even Fernando Torres managed to showcase his class with a crafty toe-glance that seemed to restore his confidence.

Villas-Boas impressed.

Andre Villas-Boas was crouched as close to the pitch as possible against Aston Villa on Saturday as he watched his team win the Barclays Asia Trophy and the manager was happy with what he saw.

“It’s been a very intensive tour in all senses, and I think today I must congratulate the players for the superhuman effort they put on the pitch and the performance,” the 33-year-old told the Club’s Official Website. The game despite the score-line reflected a dominating performance by the Blues with every player proving their worth and warranting a place in the side.

Villas-Boas pointed to his style of football, which builds from strength in defence implying it as the reason why the score lines have been marginal. A point worth noting however is that Chelsea are yet to concede a goal, which means AVB is getting his tactics right.
