Palermo forward Javier Pastore could be on his way to Chelsea after the Serie A side confirmed they were in advanced negotiations with Blues representatives, The Metro reports.
Guglielmo Micciche, the club chief at the Sicilian side, said: ‘There is no doubt that he (Pastore) should be sold for several reasons. He wants a big club and negotiations are well advanced with a very important team. Very likely, he will go to Chelsea, but I think there are many other clubs of that level looking at the boy.’
Pastore’s future has been subject to speculation all summer long and a move to Chelsea had been forgotten about, after the Blues declared interest in Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric. Spurs’ firm stance on the Croatian has resulted in Chelsea switching back to try and sign the 22-year-old Argentinian from Palermo.
A deal would have to be straight money for around £40m, as Micciche ruled out the possibility of a player plus cash deal. He said: ‘We don’t want any players in exchange, it would be impossible because it would mean taking players of a level that Palermo could not afford.’

Rennes midfelder Yann M’Vila has emerged as the replacement for the injured Michael Essien at Stamford Bridge, according to The Metro.
Essien’s knee injury in training has ruled him out of action for six months and new Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas is looking for some extra cover in his midfield. The 21 year old M’Vila has been linked with Premier League sides Liverpool and Arsenal already this summer, but Chelsea have moved into the position of favourites to buy M’Vila.
Rennes had stated that the French midfielder was not for sale, but the Blues are ready to test Rennes executives with a bid of £15m. Chelsea see the 21 year old as a good long-term prospect, but also a player who can slip straight into their team immediately.
M’Vila has earned plaudits with his impressive displays for the Ligue 1 side last season and was likened to former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele for his tough-tackling, defensive approach.
Neymar Anzhi link.
Chelsea may face competition from more than just Real Madrid in the race to sign Brazilian forward Neymar, The Independent reports.
Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala are using the legendary Brazilian full-back Roberto Carlos to try and sway the Santos forward to Russia. Carlos signed for Anzhi last year and the 28 year old is speaking to Neymar about a move to Anzhi.
Carlos said: ‘I talk to Neymar almost every day, and we’re trying to get him to come here. I explained everything about the infrastructure to Neymar, about what it will be like here in two years.’
Anzhi are owned by billionaire Suleiman Kerimov and are prepared to pay Santos £40m to acquire the 19-year-old Brazilian this summer. Chelsea’s interest is still alive however and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is still looking into the possibility of buying Neymar this summer.
